Polish carriers end border blockade at two crossings
Polish carriers have concluded the border blockade in front of the Krakovets and Rava-Ruska checkpoints on Tuesday, January 16, according to the State Border Guard Service press service.
Border guards stated, "Polish carriers have completed the blockade of the border at the Krakovets and Rava-Ruska checkpoints. The processing and passage of freight vehicles across the border in both directions are carried out in the usual mode."
The department highlighted that border guards, in collaboration with control service employees, are operating in a mode that allows for the passage of the maximum number of trucks.
It is currently known that almost 700 trucks are waiting at the entrance to Ukraine in front of these checkpoints.
"Take this information into account when planning international transportation," the statement advised.
Border situation with Poland
Since November 6, Polish carriers declared the start of a strike, expected to last until the beginning of January 2024. In the early hours, they practically blocked three checkpoints on the border with Ukraine - Yahodyn-Dorohusk, Krakovets-Korchova, Rava-Ruska-Hrebenne, releasing and admitting no more than one truck in each direction per hour. Subsequently, on November 23, carriers also blocked the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint. Additionally, there were intentions to extend the blockade to the Nyzhankovychi-Malhowitse checkpoint.
One of the demands of Polish carriers is to gain access to the Ukrainian Shlyakh system. As previously explained by the press service of Ukrainian border guards, this demand aims to involve Ukrainian carriers in working for Polish transport companies in cargo transportation.
On January 16, it was announced that Polish long-haul drivers reached an agreement on "certain conditions" with the government and would suspend their protest on January 17 at 13:00 Kyiv time.
